I was browsing the Hemmings classifieds when I came across this. Someone took an Aston Martin Vantage Volante and put a supercharged LS3 in it, making a claimed 650BHP. THIS IS A GLORIOUS COMBINATION!!!!!!

A reliable engine in a stunning, stunning body. The cost of this awesomeness? $150,000.

Kinja'd!!!

It also sports these wheels, which are said to be custom built HRE wheels which, for some reason, look like a cross between BBS RS and SSR Mesh to me. I really, really like it.

Kinja'd!!!

Mmmmmm, dat LS. Full description below, link at the bottom.

Gorgeous 1987 Aston Martin Vantage Volante Rare Slip Tail for Sale. It has a LS3 Supercharged Engine. 650 BHP documented. Extremely well kept over the years. Agreed. IMO the wheels themselves are simply gorgeous, but they're too big. I think even 18's would be too big for this car; 17's would likely be perfect, and certainly much lighter for less rotational mass.

Doesn't GM sell a crate LS thats 50 state legal? IMO thats probably waaaayyy easier than keeping an old Aston engine in good running order.

That was Aston Martin in the '70's - making cars that looked like the love child of 1960's Camaros and Mustangs, but no, European designers are far superior to our poor American cousins, we would never copy their designs, never.

I can't get over the price. I'm just not seeing $150K of value in this thing. It's nice looking don't get me wrong but, the LS swap ain't that expensive. What does one of these go for with the stock engine?

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/…

2011 AM DBS for $109. 5.9L V12 510HP. So, I'm not sure why I'd want to buy an old non-stock one for more.

This Aston and the Lagonda have always been oddities in Aston's world and are nowhere near a representation of what is Aston...

By the way, I love 60's Camaro or Mustangs. But this, is another world! Sure, inspired, by the time America was doing great cars... But another world nonetheless...

I had the pleasure of spending my teens and early twenties in a Jaguar dealership that also sold Astons, Loti (my preferred way of pluralizing Lotus) and for bits of time here and there other high end vehicles.

There was not a single mechanic there that would suggest using the original engine over this.

I approve of customization no matter how painful it may be for other enthusiasts because I thoroughly believe that people should feel encouraged to let their personalities fly when they imagine what they should be driving. However, even if I were a hardcore OEM enthusiast I just don't think I would disapprove of this swap: it makes a beautiful (albeit way too heavily Mustang "inspired") vehicle enjoyable again.

I always thought they looked like slightly angrier, less simple versions of the American muscle cars. I've seen them up close and personal and I have to say that in my humble opinion Tickford may have been a little more than "inspired" by American muscle, but they're just flat out beautiful none-the-less.

I noticed "truly a low point in Aston Martin design" was curiously absent from the ad. $150,000 for a car that's for all intents and purposes a modified Camaro with an "I'm embarrassed that this is an Aston Martin" body on it does not add up.

In this case, the only reason "rare" would apply is because nobody wanted to buy them because they sucked so bad.

This is a $25,000 car being advertised for six times the price.

Maybe it'd be worth more if it had the coupe body instead of the afterthought convertible.
